EASLEY — This Saturday the Bates Masonic Lodge will be hosting their annual barbecue with all proceeds going to benefit the Wounded Warriors project at the Richard M. Campbell Veteran’s Home in Anderson.
“We’re excited about this, it’s something we do every year,” said Master of the Lodge, Steven Hammett. “It’s going to be the good stuff — bone in, skin on BBQ chicken.”
Last year, the Masons ran out of chicken early, prompting this year’s menu change.
“Well, we did both pork and chicken last year, and long after we ran out of the chicken, people were still asking for it. So this year, we thought we’d cut costs a little bit and just focus on the chicken. After all, every cost we cut, that’s more money going to the Wounded Warriors. And that’s who were doing this for.”
The BBQ will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Lodge located at 439 NE Main St. in Easley.
“Well, it’s supposed to last until 3,” joked Hammett. “As long as we don’t run out of food before then.”
When asked if they were going to use the same smokey spicy “secret recipe” sauce they used last year, Hammett laughed.
“Oh, that’s Andy. Yep, he’ll be here this year, manning the grill as usual.”
The meal is offered at $7 a plate.
