CLEMSON — Lace up your running shoes and put on your Clemson orange.

The Tigers play in Syracuse on Nov. 14, but fans back home can show their support and make new friends at a 3.1-mile run that starts next to Memorial Stadium the morning before the game.

The 2nd Annual CES 5K Fit Run covers some of the most scenic terrain in the Upstate. Runners start at 9 a.m. in a field across from the Fike Recreation Center, go past Howard’s Rock and make their way to a dike that overlooks Hartwell Lake.

Off in the distance, runners will be able to see the stadium with “TIGERS” spelled out on the upper deck stands. The run’s theme will be fitness and fellowship.

“If you’re a Clemson fan and you’re going to do one 5K this year, this is definitely the one for you,” race director Leslie Cade said. “No other run gives you a view of Clemson like this.”

“Everyone is welcome, whether you’re a hard-core runner or a weekend jogger. The course is also perfect for walking and enjoying the scenery.”

The 5K course ends near the club fields on East Beach Drive, but the fun goes on. Prizes will be awarded for top male and female finishers. Sandwiches will be provided. There will be a bouncy house for children.

A Fun Run for children will begin at 10 a.m. near the 5K finish line. The Fun Run is free to all, regardless of whether children or their parents signed up for the 5K.

The race will be timed by go-greenevents.com and is organized by the College of Engineering and Science Student Advisory Board.

“The inaugural race was a big hit with Clemson students, faculty, alumni and staff, but we want to be welcoming to everyone,” said Anna Robinson, who is the board’s director. “We’re making it bigger and better this year. This run is going to be a must-do on the Upstate race circuit.”

Any runner who finishes ahead of Anand Gramopadhye, dean of the College of Engineering and Science, will “make the dean’s list” and receive a sticker that says, “I beat the dean!”

Registration is open now. It costs $20 until Saturday and goes up to $25 from Sunday until race day.

Proceeds support the board’s activities. The board organizes networking events, ranging from movie nights to conferences, for students throughout the school year.

“The Fit Run is a wonderful way to enjoy fellowship with each other and support student programs that are creating the next generation of engineers and scientists,” Gramopadhye said. “We are big believers in interdisciplinary education, and now we would like to extend that to exercise. “Whether you’re looking to support education or just looking to get your heart pumping, we hope you’ll join us.”
