PICKENS COUNTY — Gov. Nikki Haley is expected to attend a fundraiser for Freshman Rep. Neal Collins on Jan. 5 in Pickens County.
Collins will host the event at the Pickens County Career and Technology Center, 990 Chastain Road in Liberty, from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. Haley is expected to speak to Pickens County residents along with the candidate.
Collins said he is excited to have Haley on the itinerary for voters in the area.
“We will be having a private reception for sponsors and hosts which includes a meet and greet with Gov. Haley, but I wanted the opportunity for other voters to be able to interact with her too,” Collins said. “It’s not that often Gov. Haley is able to visit Pickens County, so we wanted to have a community event for Pickens County as well. I’m looking forward to our voters being involved.”
According to the candidate, there are a range of thoughts when it comes to an event such as this one.
“A fundraiser is probably the least likeable thing an elected official has to do, which is talk about themselves and review the last year,” he said. “It’s important to review the successes of the last year, or term itself, and the challenges which are still ahead. What I want to do is concentrate on how we can help our community and the belief I have in what we are trying to do for Pickens County and the state of South Carolina.”
The event is a fundraiser and while Collins noted there is no required donation to attend, he did say they are appreciated. Food from local businesses will be served.
The Collins campaign has established an event page and details also can be found at www.collinsforsc.com.
