PICKENS — Corey Willimon has been named the new principal for Pickens High School effective June 1.

Willimon will be replacing Marion Lawson as the big man on campus after Lawson was promoted to assistant superintendent of administration back in April.

“Mr. Willimon will bring of wealth of experience from both inside and outside the classroom to this position,” said Dr. Danny Merck, SDPC superintendent. “As a product of Pickens High School, he understands the Pickens community. I know that he will lead the Blue Flame family with enthusiasm, integrity and a love for students.”

John Eby, information specialist with the School District of Pickens County, said Willimon will work closely with Lawson to ensure a smooth transition.

Currently, Willimon works at Walhalla High School, where he has been the assistant principal of operations for the past two years. He previously served as assistant principal of instruction at Walhalla Middle School from 2011-2014.

Before becoming an assistant principal, Willimon was a social studies teacher at Southside High School, Pendleton High School and Easley High School where he served as an administrative intern his final year.

He has also coached football and basketball at several schools.

Besides being a Pickens High School graduate, Willimon holds a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Social Studies Education from Clemson University and a master’s degree in Secondary School Leadership from Furman University. He is currently pursuing an Ed.D. in Education Leadership from Liberty University.

Prior to pursuing his academic degrees, Willimon was a firefighter in the Greenville City Fire Department.

He is a member of multiple education organizations including the S.C. Association of School Administrators, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the Southern Regional Education Board, and the S.C. High School League Coaches Association.
