PICKENS COUNTY — Once again a holiday rolls around in Pickens County and because of the area’s uniqueness there are any number of ways Independence Day could be celebrated.
Whether it’s a hike on one of the many trails with beautiful vistas, an afternoon in a waterfall, family picnic, or just plain taking an easy day off there were limitless ways for upstate residents to enjoy their three-day weekend — at least those lucky to have the day off.
Another option was to hit the water of the many lakes in the area to beat the heat. There is always something soothing about the water for most.
Whether skiing or taking a soothing pontoon ride or even a quiet dip in the water to take the bite out of the summer temps, a trip to the lake seemed to be a popular choice for the holiday weekend. Lakes in many places were full to overflowing with kids on wake boards and jet skis all reveling in the summer vacation.
Pickens County’s lakes, mountains, streams, waterfalls, and trails all offer an enjoyable get away right in the backyard and a holiday such as Independence Day merely makes for one more reason to get out and soak up what Pickens County has to offer.
