ANDERSON — Anderson County 4-H has released its 4-H Summer Camp schedule. Space is limited. Contact Jessica Simpson at jdavis4@clemson.edu or call 864-226-1581 for more information. Here is a brief description of the programs:

• 4-H Summer Science “Demystifying DNA” is held for youth in grades 6 through 10 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 10 at the Clemson University CULSOC lab. The deadline to register is June 19. The camp is limited to 15 people. The cost is $20, which includes all activities and transportation to Clemson. Youth should bring lunch and spending money for a visit to the Clemson Bookstore. This camp will provide hands-on life science laboratory experience allowing participants to isolate DNA, learn about the role of DNA and other macromolecules in making cells, tissue and organisms and in determining traits, learn how DNA data is used in medicine, heredity, forensics and other fields – including advertising!

• State 4-H Horsemanship Camp is held for youth ages 9 to 18 from July 6 through July 10 at the T. Ed Garrison Arene in Clemson. The cost is $450. The registration deadline is June 6. The purpose of 4-H Horsemanship Camp is to provide youth an opportunity to learn and better techniques of horsemanship while enjoying the fellowship of other 4-H’ers from across the state. The camp is designed to increase horse knowledge and horsemanship skills – from the basics for beginning riders to showing techniques for the advanced rider. Campers must bring their own horse. This is an overnight camp.

• 4-H Summer Science – Cloverbud “Goop & Goo’s” is held for youth ages 5 to 8 from 9 a.m. to noon July 13 and July 14 at the Anderson Clemson Extension Office. The camp is limited to 10 people per day and the cost is $10 per day. This camp will be excellent for sensory play, learning to follow directions, reinforce reading and basic math, and even touching on basic chemistry. Adult volunteers are needed.

• State 4-H Congress is held for youth ages 14 through 19 from July 15 through July 18 at Clemson University. The cost is $250 per person. The goal of State 4-H Congress – a four-day personal development conference – is to motivate teens to expand their 4-H knowledge and leadership skills while celebrating and recognizing teens who “make the best better.” Youth must be eligible to attend.

• 4-H Mad Science Class is held for youth ages 8 to 13 from 9 a.m. to noon July 21 at the Anderson County Extension Service office. The cost is $10 per person and is limited to 10 people. Participants should wear play clothes and come prepared to dive into projects that require teamwork to build, mix, test and explode neat science experiments.

• 4-H20 Summer Day Camp is held for ages 8 to 13 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 27 through July 29 at the Clemson Outdoor Lab. The cost is $75 per person. Lunch is included. Participants must provide their own transportation to and from the camp. Camp activities will include daily swimming, nature hike, creek study, pontoon boat ride, macro invertebrate collection and study, water sampling, and more. The camp is limited to the first 18 youth with complete registration (form and fee). A basic sports/health physical is required.

• 4-H Back to School Fun is held for ages 5 to 13 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 5 at the Anderson County Clemson Extension Service office. The cost is $17 per person and is limited to 10 people. Lunch will be provided. Participants will make or decorate their own school supplies during activities that will reinforce listening skills, following directions, working with partners, measuring and endless creativity.
