LIBERTY — With its most recent win, a 24-14 wallop on Pickens, the undefeated Red Devils are beginning to raise some eyebrows.

The last time Liberty started a season 3-0 was in 2011 when they didn’t suffer a loss until Pendleton came to town in week 8. That year, the Red Devils ended up with an impressive 9-3 record overall, something Coach Kyle Stewart would no doubt like to best for 2016.

Meanwhile, the Pickens Blue Flame is still out searching for their first win of the season.

Sketchy pass protection combined with failed rushes has landed this team in its current 0-3 predicament. The only light at the end of the tunnel is that Pickens is traveling to West-Oak on Sept. 9 where the Warriors have also been struggling with a winless record.

For Pickens, West-Oak has become a must-win game if they want to have any chance of turning the season around.

Liberty will remain home to host Blue Ridge (1-2) on Sept. 9.

Blue Ridge should be a decent match-up for the Devils despite emotions running high following the Fighting Tigers’ tough 47-36 loss against Riverside.

Blue Ridge’s only win this season was against Landrum, which hasn’t won a game since week 6 of last season.

For Liberty, the real test of their mettle is going to be the Sept. 16 game against Powdersville.

Kick-off for Liberty versus Blue Ridge and Pickens at West-Oak is at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
