PICKENS COUNTY — The Table Rock 5K and 15K Trail Race, part of the XTERRA Trail Race national series, is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. and 7:35 a.m. Aug. 15 inside Table Rock State Park.

The scenic 5k course is a great for novice trail runners and experienced racers alike. The single track trails meander along and across scenic Carrick Creek from the nature center as runners climb toward Pinnacle Mountain. After a short climb, the 5k runners will race downhill, looping back toward the start finish line.

The 15k race course is brutal and will test the most seasoned trail runners. It follows the same route as the 5k for the first two miles, but the 15k course climbs nearly 2000 feet over the first five miles.

It passes over several gaps and reach the race’s high point of Pinnacle Mountain. The climb down is full of spectacular views from Bald Rock and other overlooks.

Technical shirts and finishers awards will be provided to all runners.

The XTERRA Table Rock Trail Race is part of a national series operating in both Colorado and South Carolina. Runners enjoyed a half-marathon trail race as part of the series at the Harbison State Forest in Columbia in July.

Table Rock State Park is located at 158 E. Ellison Lane in Pickens.
