WALHALLA — The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 33-year-old Douglasville, Ga., man over the weekend on charges of drug trafficking.

Jose Alberto Flores-Del Angel of Perry Hill Road was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 2:44 a.m. Sunday.

A deputy from the Uniform Patrol Division on routine patrol on S.C. 59 in the Fair Play area observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed late last Friday night. The deputy activated his blue lights and initiated a traffic stop with the vehicle coming to a stop on Highway 59 at Cleveland Creek Road.

The deputy observed the driver moving around a lot inside of the vehicle. The subject, identified as Flores-Del Angel, did not have a driver’s license. The deputy asked Flores-Del Angel for consent to search the vehicle and consent was granted, whereupon, officers discovered a quantity of white powder inside of the vehicle.

Agents from the Narcotics Division were called to the scene and Flores-Del Angel was placed under arrest and issued a traffic ticket for No South Carolina driver’s license. Flores-Del Angel was also booked into the Detention Center on a TCO until a warrant was obtained charging him with trafficking cocaine.

Flores-Del Angel was given a combined $50,232.50 surety bond and remains in custody at this time at the Detention Center. A hold has been placed on Flores-Del Angel by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement service.
