PICKENS COUNTY — Upstate Saving Pickens County Animals (SCPA) has announced the agency is waiving all adoption fees for the first 50 animals adopted out of the facility, effective immediately.

Sharon Johnson, media relations for the county stated in a release the agency was pleased to announce the first animal was recently adopted out — an abandoned puppy.

“A family was heartbroken after someone stole their beloved dog,” she said. Although nothing can heal the heartache of losing a pet, the family made the decision to give another animal a second chance.

According to Johnson, the family searched for weeks for their missing dog before they gave up hope of being reunited.

While searching through the Upstate SPCA website, the family found a 6-month-old Doberman Pinscher puppy available for adoption.

They drove from Williamston, S.C. to take him home.

Johnson said the family had adopted before and was prepared to pay the adoption fees but were pleased to find there was no cost thanks to the recent promotion.

“Your loving pet is waiting for you at the Upstate SPCA in Pickens County,” said Johnson in the release. “All you have to do is find the right pet and take him home. It’s that easy and free for families of the first 50 animals adopted from the shelter.”

Johnson said the fee is being waived due to the high number of animals in need of a home and also to help spread the word as the agency expands its services throughout the county.

“Our pets have been vaccinated, spayed and neutered and now need a good home,” she said. “You can also help Upstate SPCA animals in so many ways.”
