Super Saturday

PICKENS — The annual Football Super Saturday celebration will be held Sept. 19 at the Pickens High School football stadium. Hosted by the Pickens Recreation Department, Football Super Saturday serves as one of the Rec Department’s largest fundraising drives.

Gate admission will be $1 for everyone. Coaches, players, and cheerleaders will be admitted free.

The grill will be serving hot dogs all day but they need baked goods. To donate an item, deliver it to the Rec Department by 3 p.m. Sept. 18 or bring it to the field on Saturday. Those wanting to help in the concession area can contact Heidi at 864-878-2296.

Cheerleaders participating in the Spirit Queen contest will be recognized during intermission around noon. All participants and escorts who are not playing or cheering need to meet on the track at 11:30 a.m.

The day’s schedule will be as follows:

9 a.m.: Pickens Blue 7 & 8 vs. Pickens White 7 & 8

10:30 a.m.: Pickens Blue 9 & 10 vs. Pickens White 9 & 10

Noon: Announcement of Spirit Queen participants and winners

1 p.m.: Pickens Blue 11 & 12 vs. Anderson

2:30 p.m.: Peanuts Pickens vs. Liberty

4 p.m.: Punt, Pass & Kick local competition

Basketball registration

EASLEY — The Easley Recreation Department will be taking registration for basketball through Oct. 18 for boys and girls ages 6 to 14, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14. The birthday cutoff is Sept. 1.

The cost is $40 for those who live in the city and $60 for those who live outside the city. Those participating will learn about the rules of basketball and be instructed in the basic fundamentals of the game.

Register online at www.easleyrec.com. Those registering online must bring, fax or email a copy of the birth certificate to Larry Bagwell Gym. Those who do not submit one will not be placed on a team.
