PICKENS — The Pickens Blue Flame suffered a tough loss at the hand of Belton-Honea Path on Friday, falling to the Bears 31-0.
Pickens quarterback Cole Beaty threw just one pass the entire game, an 8-yard completion to Dawson Gilstrap. But the ground game didn’t yield much either for the Blue Flame as the team rushed for a total of 164 yards in 52 carries — an average of only a little over three yards a carry.
As for BHP (6-1, 1-0) the offense scored early and often, racking up four touchdowns from whistle to whistle.
With the loss, Pickens drops to 1-6 and 0-2 in regional play.
They are currently ranked 163rd in the state.
The Blue Flame will hit the road Oct. 13 to play Wren in the third of five in-region match-ups.
Wren (5-2, 1-1) is coming off a crushing 46-14 loss at undefeated Greenville.
The Hurricanes were held scoreless for three quarters before a last-minute rally in the fourth yielded two trips to the end-zone.
Kick off for Pickens at Wren is 7:30 p.m. in Piedmont.
Another team having a bad week on the gridiron is Daniel. The Lions (1-6, 0-1) were hoping to salvage their 2017 schedule but last week’s loss to Ninety Six has all but dashed any hopes for a post-season appearence.
Daniel will head to BHP on Friday. Kick off is 7:30 p.m.
