EASLEY — The 31st S.C. Northwestern District III Junior Festival of the National Federation of Music Clubs held its annual festival on March 14 and selected students to represent the Easley area in the S.C. State Recital at the Junior Convention held in May at the Newberry Opera House in conjunction with the S.C. Federation of Music Clubs’ State Convention.

The following students were selected to represent the Easley Area:

• Mallorie Newman, a student of Helen Batson and daughter of Len and Lori Newman

• Yerin Lee, a student of Kellye Smith and daughter of Woo Hyeong Lee and Jungmi Park

• Max Knutson, a student of Gilda Hendricks and son of Tomm and Heather Knutson

Alternate Representatives selected were:

• Grace Chen, a student of Gilda Hendricks and daughter of Liang Chen and Heather Hanna and Bob and Diane Owen

• Ashley Keyes, a student of Nancy Owens and daughter of Robert and Shannon Keyes

• Natalie Smith, a student of Kellye Smith and daughter of James and Kim Smith

Honorable Mentions were:

• Erin Batson, a student of Judy Granger and daughter of Keith and Betts Batson

• Avril Adams, a student of Judy Granger and daughter of Brooks and Amanda Adams

• Daniel Andrus, a student of Kellye Smith and son of Ron and Suzette Andrus

The Junior Festival program is designed to promote study and stimulate interest in American and world music literature, and to encourage participation to reach a high standard of musical achievement. Students perform and receive evaluation in a non-competitive setting.
