ANDERSON — The Anderson County Library System will hold its first Electric City ComiCon – an epic afternoon event free for all ages from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 8 at the Main Library, 300 N. McDuffie St.

The day will celebrate superheroes, comics, science fiction, literacy, and art. Events include Q&A sessions with authors, artists, and cosplayers, gaming demos and tournaments, and Cosplay and Fan Art contests.

Event partner Planet Comics will oversee gaming and gaming demos throughout the afternoon and a wide array of vendors will have booths set up for browsing, including Fanboy Glass, LABweorc, and Steampunk Frippery.

Three panel discussions will take place:

• 1:30 p.m. – “Masks and Manners: Getting Started in Cosplay and Cosplay Etiquette” moderated by Sybil Todd with Gypsey Teague, Marla Robinson and Amanda Finley

• 2:30 p.m. – “Heroes and Heroines in Young Adult Science Fiction” with moderator Tara Lynne and panelists David Weber, award-winning author Megan Shepherd (“The Madman’s Daughter”), and Delilah S. Dawson (“Servants of the Storm”)

• 3:30 p.m. – “From Page to Screen: Comic Books and Screen Adaptations” led by Mike Thompson and featuring New York Times best-selling author Robert Venditti (“The Homeland Directive” and “The Surrogates”), artist George Farmer and Dr. Allen Swords of Clemson University.

The afternoon rounds out with Cosplay and Fan Art Contests and Award Ceremonies.
