ANDERSON — The Daniel High School Lions have had a rough start this season but are looking to learn from past mistakes as they put last week’s 27-21 loss against Emerald behind them and travel to Anderson to challenge Westside.
Daniel (0-2) hasn’t been 0-2 since 2006 when the team began the season with back to back losses against Greer and T.L. Hanna. The Lions would go on to lose against Westside and Belton-Honea Path as well before finally winning against Pickens in week five.
Westside (3-0), in the meantime, is undefeated. The Rams just took down Belton-Honea Path last Friday 36-10 and are currently ranked in the top 10 in the state, coming in at #6. Westside lost to Daniel last year 24-9.
One of the biggest problems facing the Lions is that they are a young team this year.
“We graduated a lot of seniors last year,” said Daniel Head Coach Randy Robinson. “This season, we’re very sophomore heavy. We’re a young team.”
After last week’s loss, Daniel dropped 39 spots in the state’s ranking and now sits at #86.
Kick off for Daniel at Westside is at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
