PIEDMONT — With the Green Wave’s opening winning streak shattered by Seneca last Friday, Easley High School will hit the road and travel to Piedmont tonight to reclaim their winning ways by taking on Wren.

Wren (1-1) is coming off the crushing 61-28 loss they suffered against the hands of T.L. Hanna last Friday. But the season is young and coach Jeff Tate is looking to get back to basics as the Hurricanes return to their home turf where they have not lost a game since Daniel slipped by them 14-10 in 2012.

Before the 38-0 shutout by Seneca last week, Easley (2-1) was off to the best start the program has had since 2012 when the Wave went 9-3 under then Head Coach Chad Smith. Although Pickens is the traditional rival for Easley, the Easley/Wren game has been gaining more and more popularity in recent years.

Over the past five years, the teams have traded off the top spot: Wren came away with the victory the past two seasons while Easley won 48-13 in 2012, 35-21 in 2011 and 30-21 in 2010. Both teams have something to prove this year with Easley determined to reclaim their dominance and the Hurricanes intent on preserving their home winning streak.

If past games are any indicator, this Friday is likely to be a quarterback showdown. Avoiding penalties and turnovers as well as good solid pass defense will be essential in game play.

Kick off for Easley at Wren is at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
