PENDLETON — Tri-County Technical College will offer a BACK TO WORK 50+ free information session from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 25 on the Pendleton Campus.

Job candidates, who are age 50 and up, can learn about the coaching program that will help them with their personal marketing tools and networking strategies, target their search for in demand jobs, get job leads and find resources to help them while they’re looking.

Tri-County is one of 12 community colleges nationwide selected to receive a Foundation grant to help unemployed people, age 50 and older, to find work. The initiative is BACK TO WORK 50+ and is focused on the more than three million workers age 50 and older who are looking for full-time work, according to the AARP website.

The AARP Foundation’s grant targets the needs of low income, older people and offers $1,800 in scholarships for training in select programs (administrative office support, including medical office, and computer technician occupations) that leads to in-demand jobs, according to Sandra Strickland, Tri-County’s program manager for the 50+ grant.

“This grant addresses a critical issue with individuals over the age of 50 – obtaining a job with a sustainable wage,” Strickland said.

To sign up for the information session, individuals should call the AAPR Foundation toll-free at 1-855-850-2525.
