PICKENS — The Pickens Fire Department was called back to the scene of a deadly fire on Ann Street in Pickens after the blaze reignited early Wednesday morning.

The fire, which has already claimed the life of one victim, originally started on Tuesday afternoon.

Dispatchers stated that firefighters were back on scene around 4 a.m. Wednesday after calls were made describing “large flames” coming from the roof of the house. No additional injuries have been reported.

According to Pickens Fire Chief Chris Elrod, firefighters were originally called to the scene just after 1 p.m. on Tuesday. Pickens County Coroner Kandy Kelley responded to the scene shortly afterwards.

The identity of the victim had not yet been released at press time.

Two witnesses at the scene stated to The Easley Progress that an elderly woman who resided in the home died as she was trying to save her dogs.

The fire is currently under investigation by Pickens Police and the Pickens Fire as well as by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

The cause of the blaze is not yet known.
