EASLEY — The City of Easley recently announced they have created a new “active-affordable” housing opportunity along the Doodle Trail in partnership with Quinn and Satterfield Inc. and Resource Realty Group.

The site planned is at the intersection of North 5th Street and West D Street.

City officials stated the properties will be available to individuals and families that are below 120 percent of the area median income and will allow the purchaser to pick the lot and home style they wish to build.

Each home will share a property line with The Doodle Trail, the popular rail-to-trail project running from Downtown Pickens to Downtown Easley.

“Phase One of the project will feature 12 affordable owner-occupied homes and later total 18 homes collectively in the area,” said officials. “The City is donating the land to the developers to encourage the construction of these homes, while ensuring they stay affordable.”

According to meeting minutes, Easley City Council has adopted covenants to ensure the houses are owner occupied and remain affordable for at least 10 years. Council made this decision in the hope that potential buyers become a part of the community, they said.

Home lots will be available beginning June 21 and the City will hold a groundbreaking ceremony on June 28 at 11 a.m. The Easley Police Department will also hold a community cookout for all members of the community to come out and support this project at the groundbreaking, City of Easley Marketing Director Megan Wallace said.

“We are very excited to see this project happening along the Doodle Trail,” said Easley Mayor Larry Bagwell. “Our hope is that this will spur development along the trail extension into downtown and tie into the current redevelopment of Downtown Easley.”

The Active-Affordable Housing project is walk-able to the Doodle Park and Downtown Easley.
