Coats named EHS Varsity softball coach

EASLEY — There was an introduction on Monday evening, June 11, at 5 p.m. in the Easley High School Gymnasium to announce Zane Coats as the new Head Softball Coach at Easley High School.

“Coach Coats is no stranger to the Green Wave Family as she has served as JV Competitive Cheer Coach for the past two seasons,” said the school’s athletic department in a recent release. “Although Coach Coats has done a fantastic job with our Cheer Program, her true passion has always been softball.”

Coats graduated from Liberty High School where she was a multi-year varsity softball starter for the Red Devils, department officials said. She then continued her playing career as a 4-year member of the Newberry College Softball Program where she excelled both athletically and academically for the Lady Indians.

“Coach Coats has all the skills necessary to be one of the top softball coaches in the Upstate,” stated Easley Athletic Director, Gill Payne. “Her passion for student-athletes and the sport of softball were very apparent in our conversations. With her previous high school coaching experience, she understands the importance of time management, skill training and organizational skills for success. With her knowledge of the game of softball and passion for teaching, the EHS Softball Program will be soaring under her leadership.”

Coats currently teaches eighth grade social studies at Gettys Middle School.
