$2,500 grant for Y Mentor program

EASLEY — The YMCA of Easley, Pickens and Powdersville was awarded a $2,500 grant from the Million Dollar Round Table Foundation (MDRT) to support the YMCA Mentor Program, sponsored by Laura Marshall White’s New York Life Insurance’s Pickens office.

“Partnerships with donors like MDRT make it possible for students in the YMCA Mentor Program to have hope for a brighter future by having a champion in their corner,” Cindy Perry, mentor director for Pickens County, said.

The YMCA Mentor Program supports youth by providing positive adult mentors to ensure every child has an opportunity to envision and pursue a bright future.

The program currently serves 400+ students in 38 schools in Pickens County and Anderson School District One. Mentors commit to meet with their mentee for 30 minutes one day a week for one school year and have the option to continue mentoring as the student moves up in grade each year.

“The consistent commitment a mentee experiences and the support and encouragement a mentor gives is truly invaluable,” Christy Coffee, mentor director for Anderson 1, said. “The benefits of a mentoring relationship are certianly mutual for both the mentee and mentor!”
