LIBERTY — The Red Devils suffered their second in-region loss on Friday, falling to Landrum by less than a touchdown.

Even when Landrum took an early lead last Friday, Liberty (1-4, 0-2) seemed to be hanging in there. Unfortunately for the Red Devils, Landrum (3-3, 1-1) closed out the night 19-14 and claimed their first regional win of the season.

Liberty will hit the road this Friday and head to Chesnee where they will try again to snag a regional win, this time from the Eagles.

Chesnee (1-4, 1-1) had been winless this season prior to last week’s big upset against Carolina Academy. They’ve got the momentum, they’ve got the home field advantage — but that doesn’t mean that Liberty is a walk in the park.

Chesnee’s defense has a bad habit of giving up a ton of points. They’ve been averaging 41 a game. And 41 points is a lot to ask of any offense, especially one who has been scoring an average of 26 points per game.

Liberty, on the other hand, has been letting other teams score an average of 18 points a game. They also shut out Walhalla and held Crescent scoreless until they lost in overtime.

Offensively, it’s been tricky. Pickens held them to zero but even with that they’re still managing to pull out a 9 point average.

If Liberty’s defense steps up to the plate this Friday, it’s going to be a long night for Chesnee.

Kick off for Liberty at Chesnee is at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 2.
