PENDLETON – The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate a quadruple homicide that occurred sometime Sunday on Refuge Road.

Lt. Sheila B. Cole, public information officer for the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, said in a release issued Wednesday that the investigation is ongoing but the shooter or shooters have not been identified.

The victims were identified as Barbara Scott, 80; Cathy Scott, 60; Violet Taylor, 82; and Michael Scott, 59. All four lived at the incident location, 2217 Refuge Road in Pendleton, and were related.

According to the incident report, the daughter of one of the victims made the gruesome discovery just after 12:30 p.m. Monday.

Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore said the back door was open, which the daughter said was unusual.

“Miss Scott’s daughter came in the back door and it was open. She said that was unusual,” Shore said. “They usually keep the door locked even when they are home. I do believe the person involved was welcomed in or came in and that’s when the homicides took place.”

According to the Anderson County Tax Assessor’s website, the property was owned by Cathy Scott. Barbara Scott was Michael Scott’s mother and Violet Taylor was Cathy Scott’s mother.

Autopsies of the four victims indicated that they all died from gunshot wounds. The time of death was estimated to be sometime Sunday.

Shore said three of the victims were found in the den and one was found in a bedroom.

“This was very violent, very violent deaths on all four of them,” he said. “We do know these were violent murders.”

He said it did not appear as if anything was taken from the home.

“It doesn’t look like anyone rifled through the home,” he said. “They were all in the floor, the house was not disturbed other than the area where the victims were laying.”

Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office at 864-260-4400 or Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
