PICKENS COUNTY — A resolution memorializing the life of Logan Dale Evans is set to be read and voted upon on Monday’s County Council meeting.

Evans was only 23-years-old when he was found dead in a flooded waterway on his family’s property on Aug. 6, 2013.

Born in Columbia, Evans was the son of Melanie Ball Evans of Central and Trevor Paul Evans of Shanghai, China.

He was a 2008 graduate of Daniel High School and had been working as a security guard with ASG of Greer.

In addition to his parents, Evans left behind a daughter, brother and two sisters.

The memorial will be placed on Silver Creek Road in Central where the road crosses over Camp Creek.

“We don’t have all the details completely worked out, but there will be some sort of plaque or signage at the location,” said County Council Chairman Roy Costner.

According to reports at the time, Evans was driving on Silver Creek Road when his vehicle was washed down the creek. He was discovered out of his vehicle by authorities about a mile down stream and was pronounced dead at the scene.

“It was a terrible thing that happened to Logan,” said Costner. “But I think this is a fitting way to honor his memory.”

Costner said he wasn’t sure how the idea came to pass for the resolution, but in the end — it didn’t really matter.

“I don’t know if it was the Evans family, or staff or Councilman (Trey) Whitehurst, because that’s his area,” he said. “I don’t know who ‘got the ball rolling’ on this, but once we heard about it — as a council — we all agreed this is something we need to do.”

Evans’ mother is expected to speak at Monday’s meeting following a moment of silence in honor of her lost son.

“You know, you don’t just name things to name them,” said Costner. “We’ll enact this resolution not as a memorial to Logan’s accident — but as a tribute to his life. That’s how you name things — with honor and respect.”

The Pickens County Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 5 in the auditorium of the County Administration Facility located at 222 McDaniel Avenue in Pickens.
