PICKENS COUNTY — It was a deadly weekend in the Upstate as three separate crashes claimed the lives of a motorcyclist, a young father and a rising senior at a local high school.

On Friday, 32-year-old Trent Anthony Cobb of Pickens was killed as he was driving West on Gentry Memorial Highway when state troopers say he crossed the center line and side-swiped a car headed the opposite direction.

Cobb then ran off the road, flipping the vehicle and striking a tree.

The accident occurred just after 11 p.m., said Pickens County Coroner Kandy Kelley, who pronounced Cobb dead at the scene from blunt force trauma.

No injuries were reported of the driver of the east bound car.

Around 8:10 a.m. on Sunday, James David Oberkirsch from Greenville was riding his motorcycle on Highway 123 toward Easley when police say a box truck pulled out in front of him.

Wayne D. Clemens was charged with failure to yield when he went to turn left onto Highway 124, pulling into Oberkirsch’s path.

Oberkirsh hit the truck and was thrown from his motorcycle.

The coroner’s office stated that Oberkirsh was wearing a helmet, but died at the scene from blunt force trauma.

Neither Clemens nor his passenger in the box truck were hurt in the deadly crash.

Also on Sunday, 17-year-old Meghan Nicholson from Easley was killed in a wreck on SC 135.

According to troopers, Nicholson was driving South on Dacusville Highway at 12:30 a.m. when she ran off the right side of the road, skidded down an embankment and struck a tree.

The accident occurred near Ripplelake Drive.

The coroner’s office stated Nicholson was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle.

Emergency crews responded to the scene and Nicholson was transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital where she later died from extensive internal injuries.

According to the School District of Pickens County, Nicholson was a rising senior at Pickens High School.

All three accidents are being investigated by S.C. Highway Patrol.
