PICKENS COUNTY — A number of elected officials’ seats will be up for grabs throughout the area this November as six of the seven Pickens County municipalities will see terms come to an end.
Twenty positions will be on the various ballots including two mayoral races, two combined utility commissioner races and 16 city and town council seats.
In Easley, half of the City Council is up for re-election with Wards 2, 4 and 6 available. Current councilmen Kent Dykes, Terry Moore and Jim Robinson could all be facing potential challengers for their wards.
Two of the three Combined Utility Commissioner positions are also up for election as Eric Goodwin and Nick Caldwell have both reached the end of their terms.
A filing fee of $300 is required at the time of registration.
Pickens will have three races: City Council members Donald McKinney, Carlton A. Holley Jr. and Patrick Lark will all have to decide whether to run again in November.
The filing fee to run in Pickens is $50, payable at City Hall.
There are just two races a piece in the towns of Norris and Six Mile.
In Norris, Town Councilmen Lawrence McClure and Wendell Melton are both up for re-election as are Councilmen Daniel Crosby and James A. Atkinson in Six Mile.
Filing fees are $10 in Norris, $15 in Six Mile.
Central Mayor Clyde J. MacMartin Jr.’s term is up prompting one of two mayoral races in the county. Also up for grabs are three Town Council seats currently held by S. Paige Bowers, Doug Barry and Ken D. Dill.
Filing to run as mayor will set you back $75, Town Council is $50.
Last but not least, Liberty.
Three of the six City Council members will have to decide whether to seek another term as does the mayor — Eric Boughman.
The City Council seats at term’s end are currently held by Dwight Yates of Ward 1 and Ward 2’s Lisa Mullikan Hunter. Chuck Powell rounds out the three as “Council at large.”
Filing fees in the City of Liberty are $25 for each race.
The Pickens County Board of Elections states that filing opens at noon July 18 and runs through noon Aug. 1.
Residents interested in becoming a candidate for one of the open positions must file at the City or Town Hall in which they reside.
All filing fees must be paid at the time of registration and candidates are required to complete a Statement of Intention of Candidacy.
