LIBERTY — A Liberty man remains in custody following his arrest last Thursday for kidnapping, first-degree criminal sexual conduct and domestic violence.

Carl Benton Moore III, 26, of 104 Welby Way in Liberty, was arrested at a home on Pinedale Road at approximately 7 p.m.

“The Sheriff’s Office received information from a family member stating that they received what they felt was a suspicious call from a relative and that the relative may be in danger,” said Chief Deputy Creed Hashe of the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office. “Deputies arrived at the residence and found a female that stated that she had been held captive inside her residence for approximately an hour prior to law enforcement’s arrival by a man that had physically assaulted her.”

The woman, age 25-30, had received an injury to the back of her head when she was thrown to the floor and subsequently choked around her throat, Hashe said.

“The resident was later forced into a back room where she was sexually assaulted and later allowed to call a family member while he monitored her call,” he said. “During the phone conversation, the victim was able to use pre-established code words indicating that she was in danger and needed help.”

Hashe said when the Sheriff’s Office was notified and arrived at the residence Moore was found inside the home.

“It was determined in the investigation that he is not a stranger to the victim. However, he does not live at the residence on Pinedale Road,” Hashe stated.

Moore was taken into custody without incident and is currently detained in the Pickens County Detention Center where he was arraigned late Friday.

The PCSO stated the victim was treated and released at a local hospital for her injuries.

Due to the nature of the charges, the Sheriff’s Office has stated it will not be releasing any additional information or making any additional comments so that every effort can be taken to protect the identity of the victim.

Moore remains in the Pickens Dentention Center on surety bonds totaling $80,000.
