PICKENS — The City of Pickens will host a groundbreaking ceremony on July 14 for the Pickens Doodle Park.

Several grants have been awarded to aid in the revitalization efforts happening at the trail head.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Brownfield Clean-up Grant, South Carolina Recreational Trails Program, South Carolina Department of Commerce Community Development Block Grant Program and the Appalachian Regional Commission have all awarded funding to ensure the project is a success.

To thank the elected officials and organizations who have been involved with this process, the City will host a ground breaking ceremony for the Pickens Doodle Park.

A coffee reception will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the ceremony beginning at 10 a.m. with the unveiling of the newest quilt square to be featured at the Pickens Doodle Park created by the Upstate Heritage Quilt Trail.

Several federal and state representatives will be speaking at the event, including Earl F Gohl, federal co-chairman of the Appalachian Regional Commission.

Parking will be across the street at Public Works.
