CLEMSON — A man who was killed after being struck by a Southbound Norfolk Southern train in Clemson has been identified as 33-year-old Crisoforo Garcia-Cabrera of Magdealena De Las Salinas, Mexico City, Mexico.

In a release, Pickens County Deputy Coroner Gary Duncan stated Garcia-Cabrera was pronounced dead at the scene following the incident that took place just after 10:15 p.m. on July 20.

His identity was released after his family was notified, as per procedure.

According to Clemson City Chief of Police Jimmy Dixon, a 911 call told the police that a pedestrian had been hit by a train between Highway 133 and Elm Street, near the Riverpoint Condos.

He stated the area is close to where the tracks cross Lake Hartwell.

According to police, witnesses stated Garcia-Cabrera was seated on the rails of the track as the train approached and was struck by the train before he was able to get up and out of the path of danger.

Garcia-Cabrera was not a Clemson University student, officials stated, and that at this point in the investigation they have stated there has been no reason to suspect any foul play.
