EASLEY — Coaches, players, family and friends from all over the world converged on the Upstate recently to kick off the annual Senior League Baseball World Series, held for the first time in Easley.
“It’s been 17 years since we’ve been associated with Little League and it’s been really a pleasure,” said Easley Mayor Larry Bagwell at the welcoming parade on Friday. “It’s quite a thing for the City of Easley to have all these teams from within the United States and the international teams. We’re glad you’re here.”
Tournament Director John Humphrey said he was excited about the event and extended a warm welcome to all the visitors.
The evening wrapped up with what everyone in the crowd had been waiting for: team introductions.
Not counting the host team S.C. District 1, 11 teams — five national and six international — made the trek to Easley all aiming to take home top honors as World Series champions.
Domestically, you have Central, East, Southwest and West while internationally, teams made the journey to represent Asia-Pacific, Australia, Canada, Caribbean, Europe-Africa and Latin America.
