Wren Middle School knows how to #rock

PIEDMONT — Do you know why #WrenMiddleRocks?

When the seventh grade ELA teachers at Wren Middle School started to plan for the first week of school, they wanted a lesson that taught the students how to “rock” seventh grade.

One of the main lifelong lessons the teachers wanted the students to know was the importance of sharing kindness.

Over the summer, painted rocks had been appearing around town in some of the most interesting places. These rocks were often painted with a simple message or picture that would bring a smile to someone’s face.

Instead of the basic “How I spent my summer vacation” essay, the teachers decided to print out a nonfiction article from CNN about the Kindness Rock Project that was sweeping the nation and making an impact in communities like ours.

The students were given time to read the article and discuss the impact this little act of kindness can make on others. Next, each student got a rock to decorate with a message of inspiration and kindness.

The excitement quickly spread throughout the school and now every student and staff member at Wren Middle will have the opportunity to decorate an inspirational rock. These rocks will be placed on the school grounds in a rock garden with the hopes of brightening someone’s day. Wren Middle truly does “ROCK”!
