EASLEY — In spite of high winds, cancellations and rain, mayors from five towns and cities signed proclamations designating Sept. 17 through Sept. 23 as Constitution Week.
Members from the Fort Prince George Chapter perform this annual ritual with enthusiasm.
“We see it as part of our civic duty and the mayors are always so eager to be a part of the event,”said Chapter Regent Anne Kilpatrick.
The celebration’s goals are threefold: to encourage the study of the historical events that led to the framing of the Constitution in September 1787; to inform people that the Constitution is the basis of America’s great heritage and the foundation of our way of life; and to emphasize U.S. citizens’ responsibility to protect, defend and preserve the Constitution.
Mayors from Easley, Pickens, Six Mile, Liberty and Central all signed a proclamation.
