CLEMSON — A 3.1-mile run that brings together the Clemson University community each fall to promote fun, fitness and fellowship will return Nov. 4 to the South Carolina Botanical Garden.

The Clemson Fit Run 5K begins at 9 a.m. and follows botanical garden roads that remain traffic free for the duration of the race.

Registration includes a T-shirt and entry into a raffle with prizes that include a football signed by Dabo Swinney.

To register, go to bit.ly/FitRun2017.

Registration costs $30. Clemson students, faculty and staff receive a $5 discount by using promo code CLEMSON20.

Runners and walkers alike are invited to sign up. They can participate as individuals or as a departmental team.

The run is organized by and benefits the student advisory boards in the College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences and the College of Science.

Forrest Sharp, the race director and an industrial engineering major, said the theme this year is “run like a champion,” building on the Tigers’ football team National Championship.

“We are National Champions on the football field, in the classroom, and now on the running course,” Sharp said. “The Clemson 5K Fit Run gives the community a chance to celebrate our success and join a tradition now in its fourth year.”

Students use the funds they raise during the Fit Run to hold networking events throughout the school year, ranging from movie nights to conferences.

Online registration ends Nov. 2 at 11:59 p.m., but you can still sign up at packet pickup or on race day.

Participants can pick up their packets, including racing bib and T-shirt, in Riggs Hall 100a on Nov. 2 from 9:30-11 a.m. and 1-4 p.m. and on Nov. 3 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. They can also pick up packets at the botanical garden on race day.

Participants can park in the lot next to the Bob Campbell Geology Museum at 140 Discovery Lane, which is near the start and finish.

For more information, including how to form a departmental team, contact Sharp at fsharp@g.clemson.edu.

“The Fit Run is an opportunity for students, faculty, and staff alike to bond outside of the classroom, though it is open to anyone who wants to participate,” said Erica Castiglione, event co-host who is a graduate of the department of chemistry in the College of Science. “All of the funds raised by this event go toward hosting other events throughout the year, some of which are geared toward networking, while others focus on outreach in the community. Our theme this year is ‘Run Like a Champion,’ so we hope that this event will give all Clemson Tigers the opportunity to bond outside of the classroom and on the course.”
