PICKENS COUNTY — Two mayoral races and several seats on city and town councils were up for grabs on Tuesday as municipal elections were held throughout the county.
Let’s get right to it …
In Liberty, the top spot was vacant following former Mayor Eric Boughman’s decision not to seek reelection. City Councilman Brian Petersen filed to run and seemed to be be a shoo-in until a last minute filing by Dan Parsons right before the cutoff.
Unofficial results from the Pickens County Board of Elections have Petersen topping Parsons 233 to 184.
Welcome, Mayor Petersen.
Also in Liberty unofficial results have write-in candidate Bradley Dover beating Crystal Smith 173 to 127.
Over in Central, it appears Mayor Mac Martin will retain his seat with 102 votes to write-in candidate Cory Owens’ 77.
The Central Town Council had three seats to fill and four people running.
According to unofficial results, Paige Bowers, Ken Dill and Brandon Thomas will snag those seats with 113, 118 and 112 votes respectively.
Doug Barry pulled in 69 votes.
In Norris, Keith Martin, Lawrence McClure Jr. and write-in Jay Littleton were vying for two available seats on the Town Council. Martin landed 20 votes and McClure 24.
The write-in, Littleton, only gathered 6 votes as of the writing of this article.
Last but not least, Pickens …
Pickens had three City Council seats to fill and four people running.
Patrick Lark, Donnie McKinney and Donna F. Owen had 156, 161 and 192 votes respectively leaving Edgar J. Leese the odd man out with an even 70 votes.
All election results are unofficial until certified by the Pickens County Board of Elections and any elections that may require a runoff have yet to be announced.
