CENTRAL — Principal Josh Young of Daniel High School was recognized by the School Board of Pickens County on Monday for Daniel’s high graduation rate and large number of students passing AP exams.

For the Class of 2017, 91.5 percent of those who entered Daniel as freshmen were able to graduate successfully.

This was the highest total in the district and greatly exceeds the state average of approximately 80 percent, school officials said.

In addition to the recognition for graduation rate, Young accepted an award for Daniel’s Advanced Placement scores.

Daniel High had 508 passing scores on AP exams last spring. These courses are conducted under guidelines established by the College Board and allow some students to achieve college and university credits by scoring highly on the exams.
