PICKENS — Upstate Southern Off-road Bicycle Association and the City of Pickens are excited to announce they have been accepted to participate in the very first International Mountain Bike Association Dig In Grant and Fundraising Campaign.
The campaign will raise funds to continue the development of trails at Town Creek Bike Park in Pickens with a fundraising goal of $3,000 by Dec. 31.
The money raised will be used to plan and flag approximately three miles of single track trails at the bike park. Upstate SORBA will work hand-in-hand with the City of Pickens to complete this project.
The initial phases of Town Creek Bike Park were completed in 2014.
This park offers an array of wooden and dirt features for riders of all ages and skill levels to hone their bike abilities within close proximity to downtown Pickens. Bike parks like this one and Gateway Park in Travelers Rest, shine in their function of bringing cycling to a large variety of people in a fun environment that is inclusive of all skill levels and free of the hazards of biking on or near roadways.
The addition of single-track trails to the park will build upon the existing trails and will offer more variety for riders.
Also, these trails will be accessible to people on foot, making the network an easy escape into nature for bikers, hikers and runners. The trails will be easily accessed from the Appalachian Lumber Greenway near the Pickens Recreation Center.
The IMBA Dig In campaign highlights 68 projects in 31 states and provides direct fundraising for the expansion and improvement of mountain bike trails in the backyards of millions of people. Upstate SORBA serves through advocacy, building and maintenance of mountain bike trails in the area.
