DACUSVILLE — An occasional snowball fight erupted on the sides of the road as hundreds turned up to watch the annual Dacusville Christmas Parade.

“This is special, I’m so glad they didn’t cancel it,” said Amber Leesworth. “It doesn’t snow this early in South Carolina very often — to have it for our Christmas parade just make it even better. My kids have been out playing non-stop since it started.”

Leesworth’s kids weren’t the only ones taking advantage of the weather.

“We wanted to go sledding, but we didn’t have a sled,” said 7-year-old Hunter. “So my brother and I used our neighbor’s garbage can lids. We broke one, but he said it was OK and then he brought us a real sled. I hope it doesn’t melt very soon because I like sledding.”

Between the sledding, snowball fights and building snowmen, it was truly a feat for the community to find the time to put together a parade at all. That being said, Dacusville residents did what they always do — they came together and made it happen.

Tractors, convertibles and old trucks paraded through the streets along with the usual array of church groups, community organizations and local officials — whether duly elected or honorary — tossing out massive amounts of candy to the eager spectators.

It’s officially Christmastime in Dacusville.
