PICKENS — Angela Denise Brewer, 43, was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Thursday following her conviction in the 2015 death of her 14-month-old grandson.
According to court documents and Pickens County Coroner Kandy Kelley, Brentley Kolbin Lane Lusk died of acute Oxycodone toxicity, traces of which were found in the baby’s sippy cup.
The trial, which began Monday, Dec. 11, lasted just three days.
Investigators arrested Brewer two years ago when collected evidence showed Brewer was the only care taker present on the day the lethal dosage of narcotics was given to the baby.
In Oct. of 2015, deputies with the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Lusk when the child was found not breathing at a home on Swiss Entrance in Pickens.
Lusk was transported to the emergency room where he was pronounced dead, the records stated.
Brewer was convicted of Homicide by Child Abuse.
