DACUSVILLE — Assistant principal Travis Chapman will be the new principal at Dacusville Elementary School next school year. His promotion was approved by the School District of Pickens County’s board of trustees on Tuesday.

“When we hired Travis as the new AP at Dacusville this year, we were hoping he would be able to transition quickly to the principal role. He has shown that he is a great fit at DES, and he has the energy and qualifications to lead,” said Dr. Danny Merck, SDPC superintendent.

Prior to working at DES, Chapman was the principal at Centerville Elementary School in Anderson School District Five from 2014-2017. From 2011-2014, he was the assistant principal at Midway Elementary School of Science and Engineering. His first job as an assistant principal was in SDPC at Six Mile Elementary School from 2010-2011.

He began his teaching career in 2002 at Marshall Primary School before moving on to teach social studies at Belton Middle School and Lakeside Middle School.

He holds an M.A. in School Leadership from Furman University and a B.A. in Political Science from Winthrop University.

Mr. Chapman and his wife, Kaci, who is an early childhood teacher, live in Anderson with their two children, Emily and Brice. “The encouragement and support I received as well as the wonderful relationships I made in SDPC seven years ago left a lasting, positive impact on me. I am honored and thrilled about this next step in my career and the opportunity to serve this community by leading Dacusville Elementary toward an extremely bright future,” said Chapman.

Chapman will succeed Wanda Tharpe as principal at DES. Tharpe was given principal duties for Dacusville Elementary and Dacusville Middle School, which share a campus, this year. She will continue as principal at Dacusville Middle next year.
