POWDERSVILLE — The Powdersville Patriots continued their win streak going into week 5 with a 27-20 win over the visiting Red Devils on Friday.

Powdersville started off strong, putting up two touchdowns and holding Liberty scoreless in the first quarter of gameplay but a missed extra point would come back to haunt the Patriots later in the game.

In the second, Liberty settled in and got down to the football scheme fans have come to know and love from them: running it up the gut and finally putting some points up on the board.

Powdersville (3-1) answered back, also adding seven to their score, but the mood in the stands changed as fans realized this wasn’t to be the runaway game they were expecting after the first quarter.

Both teams headed to the locker rooms with the Pats up by 13.

The third was a defensive showcase of three-and-outs for both teams, neither letting the other score but by the fourth, Liberty had found their groove and started to really make a challenge for the win.

The Red Devils put up another 13 points in the game’s late rally, but Powdersville was not to be denied. Another trip to the house ended the Devils’ hopes of victory and the whistle blew 27-20, Powdersville.

The Patriots hit the road this week, traveling to Pendleton to take on the Bulldogs on Sept. 22. with a 7:30 p.m. kick off.

Liberty (3-2) returns home to host the West-Oak Warriors, also at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 22.

West-Oak (0-5) has been struggling the 2017 season and is hoping to finally come up with a run after a tough 20-9 loss against Landrum.
