LIBERTY — Fresh and rested, the Liberty Red Devils are coming off their bye week following a huge 44-0 win over West-Oak to host Crescent on Friday.
The Devils are sitting on a 4-2 record as they head into their last non-region game against the 3-3 Tigers from Iva.
Crescent has had its ups and down in the 2017 season: Two wins in a row at the top of their schedule had fans riding high but back to back losses against Palmetto and Fox Creek put their backs against a wall.
The team is undefeated at home, but has struggled on the road, which may be good news for Liberty as they make a run for a repeat playoff appearence.
Kick off for Crescent at Liberty is at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 6.
Just down the road, Daniel High School is also looking for a win after their 35-14 loss against Wren — the Lions first regional game.
Daniel (1-5, 0-1) was held to just 96 rushing yards in 31 carries by the Hurricanes. Combined with Wren’s pass-happy offense and ability to put up points almost at will, it was a rough night in Central.
For Lions fans who are a bit down in the mouth, it wasn’t all bad: the Lions sacked the Wren quarterback six times throughout the game and senior Drew Swinney had 105 yards in receiving and couple of touchdowns in the second and third quarters.
In all, Daniel is a young team and for the time being anyway, fans are just going to have to deal with the rebuilding year.
The Lions will stay on home turf to host Ninety Six (1-5) on Friday.
As for the Hurricanes? Wren (5-1, 1-0) will head back home to try and take down the as yet undefeated Red Raiders of Greenville.
Kick off is at 7:30 p.m.
