PICKENS COUNTY — With a little more than a 20 percent voter turn out, more people hit the polls today in the Upstate than had been expected by voting officials.
Unofficial results were released just after 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday with the following races:
David Hiott will retain his seat in State House District 4, avoiding a runoff with challenger Phillip Healy by securing 68.2 percent of the vote. Healy took 1,516 votes to Hiott’s 3,252.
Neal Collins came in with the most votes (2,309 and 49.14 percent) on Tuesday night, but failed to break 50 percent and will likely have a runoff with Alan Quinn if the unofficial results hold. Quinn snagged 1,241 votes (26.41 percent) to David Cox’s 1,149 (24.45 percent.)
On the Pickens County Council side of things, both Ensley Feemster and Trey Whitehurst will stick around for another term.
Feemster nabbed 479 votes (52.99 percent) to challenger Margaret J. Thompson’s 425 (47.01 percent) while Whitehurst secured 879 votes (55.08 percent) to Robert McKinney’s 717 (44.92).
Provisional ballots will be included on Thursday morning when election results are certified and made official, said Rodney Allen, executive director of Pickens County Elections.
