PICKENS — An escaped inmate from the Pickens County Prison has been caught, according to Chief Deputy Creed Hashe of the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office.

Steven Aiken was arrested without incident just before 7 p.m. on Thursday at a residence on Morning Dew Court. in Liberty. He is currently detained in the Pickens County Detention Center and is facing an additional charge of Escape. The arrest occurred after receiving additional leads and information from the public, said Hashe.

On March 10, just after 4 p.m., Aiken, who was serving a 128 day sentence for failing to pay child support, climbed a perimeter fence and escaped on foot, officials said.

Authorities said Aiken was last seen running towards Concord Church Road.

Reports stated Aiken had been incarcerated since early January 2019 for the missed child support payments but he was still facing charges of Domestic Violence and Malicious Injury to Property.

Officials said the incident occurred when a perimeter door was opened in order to bring laundry into the facility.

The Pickens County Prison is a minimum security facility built in 1965 primarily used for inmates that participate in an off-site work crew or labor program if they qualify.

Aiken was not assigned to an off-site work crew, authorities said.

Aiken marks the third escape from the prison in under four months.

Back in early December 2018, two inmates — Timothy Cleveland Dill and Bruce Webb McLaughlin, Jr. — escaped the prison after assaulting two prison guards.

Dill was recaptured shortly after the escape, McLaughlin was shot and killed by a woman after he kicked in the back door of her home.
