WILLIAMSTON — Patriot fans are hitting the road tonight, heading to Williamston as Powdersville looks to take on Palmetto in this year’s season opener.

The Mustangs went just 4-6 last season, 2-5 in region play. They begin the season ranked 130th in the state but are looking to improve on last year — counting on the leadership of several returning players in key positions.

Powdersville is coming off a 7-4 2014 season, with a 4-3 regional record. Currently ranked 99th in the state, the Patriots are hoping to build on the solid foundations that the team has built over the past four years and fans are expecting nothing less than another run at the playoffs.

Last season, Powdersville was knocked out of the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Woodruff 42-27.

As for tonight’s game, both coaches are hungry for a win that could very well set the tone for the entire season. The Patriots have won two out of the past three match ups with the Mustangs, winning 42-20 last season. In 2012, Palmetto defeated Powdersville 35-27.

Kickoff for Powdersville at Palmetto is tonight at 7:30 p.m. in Williamston.
