POWDERSVILLE – The Lady Patriots golf team from Powdersville High School is in the midst of a stellar season. They are undefeated in regular match-ups, have placed no lower than third in invitationals and will soon head to North Myrtle Beach to play for top honors in their division at Black Bear Golf Club.

Coach Pamela Prescott, who has been there from the beginning, said she is proud of how much her team has accomplished in just a few years.

“I’ve got seven girls and they’re fantastic,” said Prescott. “They work hard and they’ve earned their success.”

The 2015 team is comprised of Katie Christ, Breland Foster, Julie Schoebel, Ally Bane, Annie Laurie Atkins, Emma McQueen and Genevieve Lundgren.

The team played Landrum this week at Smithfield Golf Course in Easley, winning by a decisive score of 167-257 — a record score for the Lady Pats. The previous record low for the team was 176, also against Landrum.

Medalist for the game against Landrum played Oct. 6 was Katie Christ with an impressive score of 37 followed closely by Emma McQueen with a 42. Annie Laurie Atkins finished with a 43 and Breland Foster and Allie Bane each tied with a 45 to bring home the win.

Next up for the Lady Patriots is Pendleton on the road followed by Wren on Oct. 12. The previous match-up against Pendleton saw players Christ, Foster, Schoebel and Bane score a 40, 46, 49 and 56, respectively, with a team score of 187 — all the more impressive when you take into account how young the team is.

Freshmen on the team like Julie Schoebel might be young, but then again, Schoebel’s been golfing since she was 5.

“I have a couple of middle schoolers that will be moving up,” Prescott said during the match against Liberty. “But you have to remember — the team itself hasn’t been around all that long.”

The girls will compete in a Region I AA Tournament on Oct. 13 at their home course of Smithfield and then travel to North Myrtle Beach to compete the following weekend in the AA state tournament at Black Bear Golf Club on Oct. 19 and Oct. 20.
