EASLEY — It might still be cold outside, but the Easley Farmer’s Market is preparing for the upcoming 2016 season and is now taking applications for vendors who want to participate.

Director Lisa Chapman said the eighth year for the market should prove to be the best thus far. Prospective vendors need to meet application guidelines and familiarize themselves with any changes that have occurred since the end of the 2015 season.

“We are now accepting applications for the 2016 season and those are due Feb. 19. The applications are available online as well as some new requirements issued by DHEC (Department of Health and Environmental Control),” Chapman said. “There are some new guidelines for processed foods or baked goods to be sold this year and anyone who wants to sell these items should see the website to get a copy along with their application.”

The market has grown since its first season eight years ago and Chapman stated the market is seeking some who could add a little flavor to this season, although she does feel over the last seven years the market has found its identity.

“We’re looking for some growers with value added products, such as items not normally found in the produce offered,” Chapman said. “If there are any chefs who would like to come out and use local ingredients to teach how to cook vegetables so they are healthy, for example, we would love to have them. This would not only help customers but also our local farmers as well.”

Applications in before the Feb. 19 deadline will go to a committee that will then notify the successful vendors in March of their acceptance.

As in the past, local musical talents are welcome but do not have to submit an application. Those persons should contact the market by phone or email to discuss scheduling an appearance date.

The Easley Farmer’s Market is slated to open April 2 in conjunction with Spring Fling from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Market will be open each Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon through Oct. 1.
